The Occupational Health & Wellbeing Department is here to support you in work, because being in work is an important contributor to good health. Our role as impartial advisers to employees and managers is to minimise work-related ill-health and to maximise good general health in the workplace.
In a typical year, our service will help staff maintain or regain their wellbeing through 2,300 management referral appointments with an OH clinician, 2,000 counselling and therapy sessions and 3,400 immunisation appointments.

Over the festive period, the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Department at the Derriford Centre for Health & Wellbeing will be open as usual Monday-Friday 8am- 4pm (except for bank holidays), and you can continue to access our occupational health services and associated support:
- Through a referral by your manager or by self-referring to our service (see guidance on Staff Hub)
- By emailing plh-tr.occhealthadvice@nhs.net for general advice from one of our OH Doctors or Nurses.
- By emailing plh-tr.OccHealth-StaffCounsellingTeam@nhsnet for a Single Session Therapy pack and initial appointment with a counsellor, to focus on your greatest worry, challenge or difficulty, and gain some ideas or strategies to try out.
- By looking at the resources and support available on the staff Wellbeing Hub.
- Through the Employee Assistance Programme, which offers all our staff a free, confidential and independent counselling telephone helpline, provided by VivUP, and enables you to talk to a trained counsellor 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by phone or web.
Get involved
As part of this year’s 12 Days of Wellbeing, we’d love you to get involved as we know not everyone lives in Plymouth and not everyone takes the same approach to looking after their family’s wellbeing.
We’d like to hear from you if there is an option near your home, or an approach that you take that really works for you.
Please share your feedback here anonymously, so we can compile a list to benefit colleagues at the end of the 12 days.
