What do we do at UHP to tackle inequalities?

At UHP we aim is to create a workplace where everyone can be at their best.  Everything we do will work towards this and we will find ways to meet the needs of different people to create an equitable workplace.  Having a sense of belonging, being valued for our similarities and differences and consistently treated with respect are essential elements to enable people to feel valued. There is evidence that demonstrates a diverse and inclusive workplace improves colleague and patient experience.

We recognise that we do not all experience the workplace in the same way.  We know that colleagues who identify with one or more marginalised groups may face more issues of discrimination, find it harder to progress in their career, harassment and bullying. Marginalised groups will often refer to people who identify as women, have a Black, Asian and minority ethnic background, have a disability and/or are LGBT+.  Many people identify with more than one protected characteristic which increases the barriers and issues they might face.

EDI Reporting

There is a range of national and NHS reporting that we do.  This generally looks at a range of workplace data and staff survey feedback to better understand what we do well and where our challenges are.  We also use other feedback from our Staff Networks and Freedom to Speak Up Team and create ways to improve the workplace experience that will make the most difference.

The latest reports are shown below and each have action plans to support an inclusive culture.

We will continue to actively challenge workplace inequalities, taking care to ensure people have equal access and outcomes. We will role model behaviours that are kind, compassionate, inclusive as well as ensuring our processes are free from bias and discrimination. We will enable colleagues to feel able to raise concerns and to challenge behaviours that are discriminatory, unfair and do not respect others. Our aim is to remove the gap in experience between colleagues who identify with minoritised groups, those with unmet needs and the wider workforce.
