Celebrating Excellence in Medical Education

On Thursday 4 July, the Medical Education team were delighted to host an ‘Evening of Excellence in Medical Education’, celebrating the fantastic contributions to Medical Education being made across University Hospitals Plymouth. The event was extremely well attended with learners and educators spilling out of the Postgraduate Medical Centre as numbers were so high!

22 entrants for the evening’s poster competition were displayed, representing initiatives which had successfully contributed to improvements in medical education from departments across the Trust.

Director of Medical Education, Dr Annette Rickard, and Deputy Director of Medical Education, Dr Sarah Wimlett, took on the task of presenting 15 awards across various categories. Our fabulous colleagues at UHP took time to write thoughtful and inspiring nominations for more than 120 individuals and teams. Our wonderful judges from across the organisation helped us decide on winners.

We recognise that we were really only able to scrape the surface of celebrating all our education heroes, those who turn up, deliver great care and enthuse and inspire learners across the multi professional education domain.   Quality medical education is essential for developing and retaining a medical workforce which is equipped to deliver the standard of care we strive for in the NHS. Therefore, we very much look forward to growing and nurturing an increasing medical education faculty at UHP and celebrating our learners and educators regularly. By valuing our workforce, we are confident that not only will patient care be improved, but that our workforce will continue to evolve in a happy and healthy way, even when the going gets tough. A huge congratulations to all the award winners and nominees and thank you to everyone involved in making the evening such a success.

“Felt very proud to be associated with UHP and the Medical Education team, who have provided the fertile environment for such excellence to be encouraged, supported and blossom amongst our trainees.” Mr Arun Ariyarathenam, Educational Supervisor of the Year Winner

“Receiving the Director of Medical Education award was a truly humbling experience, and it filled me with a deep sense of accomplishment and appreciation.” Rachel Garlick, Director of Medical Education Award Winner.
