Day 7: 12 Days of Wellbeing

Our sessions are ‘uplifting’, ‘welcoming’ and ‘non- judgmental’

We are not a choir. We sing together to improve health and for fun! All voices are welcome, whatever you think you sound like. No auditions, just come along.

We run groups specifically for Mums to help improve well-being and to reduce social isolation that you can feel as a Mother.  Here we learn songs together to help work our muscle memory and to help cognitive skills after having a baby, although all Mums welcome.  We sing through repetition, learning through ear, with no music or lyrics for the majority of the session (although these can be available if people are anxious about this). We sing a mixture of traditional folk songs, world songs, sea shanties and popular songs. They will all be chosen with empowering lyrics.

We also run Community sessions across Plymouth, which are also very inclusive. Here we also sing and learn some short songs with the natural voice and in an acapella style (no music) but the majority of the community sessions are sing along with music to popular songs, themed around a topic suggested by the community such as places, colours, plants etc

Singing has many benefits including:

There is also research to show that singing together helps you connect with others quicker than any other activity. It is brilliant for bringing people together and helping reduce social isolation and loneliness as well as the many other physical and mental benefits of singing.
