Come and see our new linear accelerator

radiotherapyOn the 28th of September,as part of our Open Day, the radiotherapy department will be opening the doors to our new linear accelerator. This machine completes our three-year replacement programme, which has cost more than £6 million and has seen the replacement of all three linear accelerator treatment units with machines capable of the latest imaging modalities. These machines are enabling us to deliver highly technical and precise treatment for patients with cancer.

During the open day, the public will be able to see the linear accelerator and treatment rooms. We will also have a 3D simulation of the machine so you can see how it works inside the patient! 3D glasses will be provided. A demonstration of some of our immobilisation devices will also take place, with staff explaining how and why they are used.

We are all very keen to participate in the open day to raise public awareness of radiotherapy and its key role in the fight against cancer.

We are all very keen to participate in the open day to raise public awareness of radiotherapy and its key role in the fight against cancer.

By showing people the linear accelerators and having staff on hand to answer any questions that they may have, we hope to be able to alleviate any fears about the treatment. This will help people to have a better understanding of radiotherapy, if they themselves or friends/family need to receive treatment.

We look forward to seeing you on the 28th September.
