The Children’s Theatre Unit at Derriford Hospital is the only dedicated children’s surgical unit in the South West Peninsula and the team are really looking forward to showing children and their parents around. We have a range of child friendly activities planned with the aim of demystifying what happens when a child comes to hospital for a procedure.
Bring your well loved Teddy to our Teddy Bears’ Hospital for a check up by our team of real doctors and nurses. Child owners will be able to help the team to patch up any worn bits of Teddy in a real operating theatre. All Teddies will get a patient booklet and bravery sticker!
Come and see inside a real operating theatre and experience our state-of-the-art simulation equipment. At 11am and 1pm we will run a simulation exercise to show what happens when a child is anaesthetised and has a grommet inserted.
Learn to bandage and plaster; find out how clean your hands are and play our giant “Operation” game.
Design some new “scrubs” (theatre clothes) in our colouring competition.
Face painting, balloon modelling and lots more… We all look forward to meeting you.
